About Listeria

L. monocytogenes (commonly referred to just as Listeria) is a type of bacteria which can cause the disease listeriosis. Although it is not common, listeriosis is a serious disease, particularly for pregnant women, the young, the elderly and those with a weakened immune system. Nearly all of the people who develop listeriosis will be hospitalised, and around one third will die.
